BioWare fortæller nu, at man endnu ikke har truffet en beslutning med hensyn til Mass Effect seriens fremtid. Men man er i hvert fald ikke løbet tør for idéer, hvis man går i gang med endnu et spil i serien.

Mass Effect 3 udkommer i næste måned og bliver slutningen på Shepards historie, men universet kan sagtens fortsætte med at eksistere, måske i spin-offs? Eller en decideret efterfølger?

BioWare Edmonton producer Michael Gamble sagde følgende, da han blev spurgt ind til Mass Effects fremtid: "We've spent a lot of time building the IP and building this amazing world.

"We don't have anything to announce, and ME3 is the end of Shepard's story of course, but who knows? We may tell additional stories in the future."

Han har også sagt til OXM, at en prequel er en mulighed.

"Without going down any specific path, you can think of many, many different areas throughout the IP, throughout the history, where there are large wars to be won, battles to be had, and a lot of development to be done around where these races came from, how they came about.

"We have so much to draw from. We haven't made a decision about whether we'll do anything in the future, but if we were to do something, we just have a lot of information to choose from.

"If you boot up Mass Effect 3 and look through the codices you'll see we have tonnes and tonnes of backstory," tilføjede han. "The future is wide open for what we can possibly do."
